With the upcoming election so close, the Unconventional group from California is touring the US, to “mobilze and inspire voters to have a conversation about real issues, like what happened to our first responders after 9/11 and what has happened to the sanctity of our election process ”, says Penny Little, documentary filmmaker and musician who is spearheading the tour.
In their truck and fifth wheel donated by an anonymous donor, the intrepid and unconventional crew will be traveling from Southern California through the Nation's Southwest and Midwest.
The tour will feature music from California’s “Away Team” and special guests, plus film showings of Penny Little’s films “9/11 Dust and Deceit" and her award winning "Electile Dysfunction” Inviting local musicians and special guest speakers is a feature of the tour, making each event different, unconventional and shaped by local input. In Austin, the event is a fundraiser for the First Responders of 9/11, all proceeds after expenses going to the Feal Good Foundation, founded by first responder John Feal to help those who have health issues from the environmental disaster in New York City after 9/11.
Penny says “This is not just a tour. We are filming the entire event. We want people to talk about what is important to them, and to get involved in the political process -- whether it’s voting, boycotting, campaigning, becoming the media, demonstrating, running for office, doing something. Even though the toxic dust of 9/11 is a serious issue, it has not been a part of the national dialogue this election cycle and it should be.”
In California, gigs are being organized with Wil B of the Political Power of Hip Hop, and Eliza Jane (of South Park fame). The Unconventional "Heartland" crew include Penny Little, Nik Green, and Dawn Perrine -- making their way from Santa Barbara to Tulsa, Little Rock, St. Louis, Bloomington, Chicago, Austin and Albuquerque.
The kickoff Tour Party will be in Santa Barbara on Oct. 9, coincidentally John Lennon's birthday.
